Two women were shot and killed in separate incidents on Chicago's West Side early Sunday morning.

Two women were shot and killed on Chicago's West Side within six minutes of each other early Sunday morning, Chicago police said. The shootings appear to be unrelated. Both women were arguing with someone before they were shot, and both were taken to Stroger Hospital, where they died.

The first shooting happened around 3:37 a.m. outside the Original Maxwell Street food stand at 3801 W. Harrison St. in West Garfield Park. Police said a woman was arguing with a man outside the stand when he pulled out a gun and shot her several times. He then got into a silver SUV and drove away, police said.

First responders took the woman to Stroger Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Police said she suffered multiple gunshot wounds to her head and body. Area detectives are investigating the shooting, and police have not released the woman's name or age, nor have they announced an arrest.

Six minutes later, at about 3:43 a.m., a second woman was shot roughly two and a half miles away in the Near West Side neighborhood. Police said the 38 year old woman was standing in the 1300 block of West 13th Street, near Throop Street, when she got into a fight with another person. That person pulled out a gun and shot her once in the chest, according to police.

Paramedics took her to Stroger Hospital as well, where she died from her injuries. Police did not release details about the suspect in that shooting, and no one was in custody as of Sunday morning. Area detectives are handling that investigation separately from the West Garfield Park shooting.

The Original Maxwell Street stand is known for its late-night Polish sausages and Maxwell Street style pork chop sandwiches and stays open into the early morning hours, including after bars and clubs close. The shooting happened during that overnight stretch, when the block would typically still have people coming and going for food.

The 13th Street shooting happened on a residential block on the Near West Side, between the Illinois Medical District and the University of Illinois Chicago campus, not far from the United Center.

The two shootings happened within roughly six minutes of each other overnight Saturday into Sunday. Chicago police also responded to a fatal shooting of a man on West Cermak Road in Lawndale and a shooting on the South Side that left four people wounded, two of them critically, police said.

Neither shooting has led to a publicized arrest. Police have not said whether the man seen driving away in the silver SUV from the West Garfield Park shooting has been identified, and no description of the second shooter has been released. Detectives from the Bureau of Detectives are continuing to work both cases, and police ask anyone with information to contact Area detectives or submit tips anonymously through the department's website.

The Chicago Police Department has not said whether the two women knew their attackers, though in both cases officers described the confrontations as arguments that escalated quickly into gunfire rather than random attacks. Investigators are still working to determine what sparked each dispute and whether the people involved had any prior relationship with the shooters.

As of Sunday afternoon, the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office had not released the identities of either woman, pending notification of family. Police said updates on both investigations, including any charges, would come as detectives develop leads. For now, the two cases remain open, with no suspects named and no court dates set.
