Human Remains Found in Darien Backyard, Identification Under Way
Authorities are piecing together a grim discovery after human remains were found in a southwest suburban backyard late last week, launching a multi-agency investigation that continued into Monday.
Officers with the Darien Police Department responded around 3 p.m. Friday to a residence on Brookhaven Avenue near Juniper Lane following a report of human remains on the property. Upon arrival, officers confirmed that the remains did appear to be human.
The DuPage MERIT Forensic Investigative Unit was called to the scene to process the area and collect evidence. As of Monday afternoon, the Darien Police Department's Investigations Division and the DuPage County Coroner's Office were actively working to establish the identity of the remains.
Authorities have not released any additional details regarding how the remains were discovered, how long they may have been at the location, or whether foul play is suspected.
The investigation remains ongoing. Residents in the area can expect a continued law enforcement presence as investigators work to determine the identity of the remains and the circumstances surrounding their discovery.
